A Minister decided that a visual demonstration would add emphasis to his Sunday sermon.

Four worms were placed into four separate jars.

The first worm was put into a container of alcohol.

The second worm was put into a container of cigarette smoke.

The third worm was put into a container of chocolate syrup.

The fourth worm was put into a container of good, clean soil.

At the conclusion of the sermon, the minister reported the following results:

The first worm in alcohol … Dead.

The second worm in cigarette smoke … Dead.

The third worm in chocolate syrup … Dead.

The fourth worm in good, clean soil … Alive

So the Minister asked the congregation, “What did you learn from this demonstration?”

Karen was sitting in the back and quickly raised her hand and said,

“As long as you drink, smoke, and eat chocolate, you won’t have worms!”

That pretty much ended the service !!

When I was a kid, I loved show-and-tell.. So I always have a few sessions  with my students. It helps them get over shyness and usually, show-and-tell is pretty tame. Kids bring in pet turtles, model airplanes, pictures of fish they catch, stuff like that. And I never, ever place any boundaries or limitations on them. If they want to lug it in to school and talk about it, they’re welcome.

Well, one day this little girl, Erica, a very bright, very outgoing kid, takes her turn and waddles up to the front of the class with a pillow stuffed under her sweater.

She holds up a snapshot of an infant. ‘This is Luke, my baby brother, and I’m going to tell you about his birthday.’

‘First, Mom and Dad made him as a symbol of their love, and then Dad put a seed in my Mom’s stomach, and Luke grew in there. He ate for nine months through an umbrella cord.’

She’s standing there with her hands on the pillow, and I’m trying not to laugh and wishing I had my camcorder with me. The kids are watching her in amazement.

‘Then, about two Saturdays ago, my Mom starts saying and going, ‘Oh, Oh,Oh, Oh!’ Erica puts a hand behind her back and groans. ‘She walked around the house for, like an hour, ‘Oh, oh, oh!’ (Now this kid is doing a hysterical duck walk and groaning.)

‘My Dad called the middle wife. She delivers babies, but she doesn’t have a
sign on the car like the Domino’s man. They got my Mom to lie down in bed like this.’ (Then Erica lies down with her back against the wall)

‘And then, pop! My Mom had this bag of water she kept in there in case he got thirsty, and it just blew up and spilled all over the bed, like psshhheew!’ (This kid has her legs spread with her little hands miming water flowing away. It was too much!)

‘Then the middle wife starts saying ‘push, push,’ and ‘breathe, breathe’.
They started counting, but never even got past ten. Then, all of a sudden, out comes my brother.. He was covered in yucky stuff that they all said it was from Mom’s play-center, (placenta) so there must be a lot of toys inside there. When he got out, the middle wife spanked him for crawling up in there’

Then Erica stood up, took a big theatrical bow and returned to her seat I’m sure I applauded the loudest. Ever since then, when it’s show-and-tell day,
I bring my camcorder, just in case another ‘Middle Wife’ comes along.

A lady died this  past January, and CIBC bank billed her for February and March for their annual  service charges on her credit card,  and then added late fees and interest  on the monthly charge. The balance  had  been $0.00, now is somewhere around  $60.00.   A family member placed a call to the CIBC Bank:

Family Member:   ‘I am calling to tell you that she died in January.’

CIBC:   ‘The account was never closed and the late fees and charges still apply.’

Family Member:   ‘Maybe you should  turn it over to collections.’

CIBC:   ‘Since it is two months past due, it already has  been.’

Family Member:   So, what will they do when they find out she is dead?’

CIBC:   ‘Either report her account to the frauds division or report her to the credit bureau, maybe both!’

Family Member:   ‘Do you think God will be mad at her?’

CIBC:   ‘Excuse  me?’

Family Member:   ‘Did you just get what I was telling you . . . the part about  her   being dead?’

CIBC:   ‘Sir, you’ll have to speak to my supervisor.’ (Supervisor gets on the phone)

Family Member:   ‘I’m calling to tell you, she died in January.’

CIBC:   ‘The account was never closed and the late fees and charges still apply.’

Family Member:   ‘You mean you want to collect from her estate?’

CIBC:   (Stammer)  ‘Are you her lawyer?’

Family Member:   ‘No, I’m her great  nephew.’ (Lawyer info given)

CIBC:   ‘Could you fax us a certificate of death?’

Family Member:   ‘Sure.’  (  fax number is given  )

After they get the fax:

CIBC:   ‘Our  system just isn’t set up for death. I don’t know what more I   can do to help.’

Family Member:   ‘Well, if you figure it out, great! If not, you could just keep billing   her. I don’t think she will care.’

CIBC:   ‘Well,  the late fees and charges do still apply.’

Family Member:   ‘Would you like her new billing address?’

CIBC:   ‘That might help.’

Family Member:   ‘  Rookwood Memorial   Cemetery , 1249 Centenary Rd, Sydney Plot Number   1049.’

CIBC:   ‘Sir, that’s a cemetery!’

Family Member:   ‘Well, what  the **** do you do with dead people on your planet?’

Developing mindful awareness in our connections with others begins with understanding and clarity of our own actions and reactions while becoming aware of what is going on for the other person. What is the action that they are reacting to causing them to disconnect from being present and open with you and why are they reacting? If you wonder why this would be of benefit to you, pause a moment and consider if you are feeling fulfilled and satisfied with your connections. Are you giving and receiving in a way that you and the other person is experiencing a sense of empowerment? Begin to explore what it means to shift beyond exclusion in your conversations into the experience of inclusion.

7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

An organic process begins to happen in the  safety of space and sharing where the person sharing can step forward and be vulnerable.  Take time to find out how you are creating your own experience and learn to make change through your understanding of your own language.

This is an experience of learning while developing genuine dialogue and presence through using the fundamental skills of the Nonviolent Communication techniques to the best of our abilities in the moment of expressing them.  The primary focus will be on learning to check in before responding, expressing what is alive in the moment and sharing the values

that are important to you.  Using less words for bigger experience and connection what’s alive spontaneously creating vitality and the inner beauty of connection. (The story is draining and time consuming!)

Women the time is now to begin to return to our true selves and show up in the world from our vulnerable and authentic self.   The Dali Lama, Desmond Tutu, The Hopi (Mayan) Indians and others suggest that it will be the Western  Women who shift and heal our planet and be the next leaders.  It is us who have the time and resources to begin this journey of changing our culture and new information is abundant that change is through our language. Language is creating reality.

Our focus will be different than learning the basic skills through chapter by chapter content of Marshall’s writings or the correct ways through our thinking mind.  It will be  more on encouraging the inner connection using this methodology therefore this series will benefit from your willing participation in developing fundamental skills in Nonviolent Communication.  This can be achieved through classes, practice groups, reading Marshall’s writings and others, watching DVD’s, videos and listening to audios.  These are available from the Victoria NVC Community Library Resources or public library system.
